When a  previously treated tooth has a recurring infection, or one that will not cease, an apicoectomy is a procedure that will possibly allow you to save the tooth from extraction.  During an apicoectomy, the root tip (apex) is removed along with the infected tissue.  A filling is then placed to seal the end of the root.
